About Beyond the Brains

What we believe

Every child is born with a natural love of learning. Education should protect that curiosity — not replace it with compliance. Students deserve curriculum that is relevant, rigorous, equitable, and honest about the world they’ll inherit: its climate, its technology, its challenges. They deserve to be trusted to think.

— Jazmine Caldera, Founder & CEO

Who we are

Educators building the curriculum we always wished existed for our students.

It started in a South Los Angeles classroom. Beyond the Brains LLC was founded in March 2025 by Jazmine Caldera, a high school science educator in a Title I public school in South Los Angeles. After five years in the classroom, she kept running into the same wall: students capable of deep, rigorous thinking were disengaging — not because they couldn’t learn, but because the curriculum gave them nothing worth learning.

Worksheets about abstract concepts. Memorization for tests. Nothing connected to the world they actually live in.

So she started building what she wished existed.

Jazmine holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and a B.A. in Spanish from San Diego State University and an M.A. in Transformative Education from Loyola Marymount University. But the credential that matters most: she still educates. Every resource is built for real classrooms, real prep periods, and real students.

Our mission

Future-ready curriculum, built for real learners

To design accessible, future-ready curriculum that empowers learners to become thoughtful, curious, and creative problem-solvers — shifting education from subject-centered silos to issue-centered experiences.

Our vision

Real-world relevance at the center of learning

To transform how education is designed, delivered, and experienced: curriculum that challenges outdated models and puts real-world relevance at the center of learning.

Our approach

Start with the issue. The science follows.

We start with real-world issues — climate change, public health, food systems, AI ethics — and students pick up foundational science along the way. This “top-down” approach flips the traditional script: instead of memorizing content in hopes it becomes useful someday, students apply knowledge to problems that matter today.

Every resource is structured around skills that transfer: analyzing real data, evaluating evidence, and arguing from it.

  • NGSS-aligned, human-verified before anything publishes
  • Built on the 5E instructional model
  • Real data, real issues — never worksheets about abstractions
  • Claim–Evidence–Reasoning woven through every resource

Bring this approach to your classroom.

Every resource is designed the way we’d want it for our own students — rigorous, real-world, and ready for tomorrow’s lesson.
